Renovation Savings – the cheapest suppliers in Sydney for Prime Cost items.
Renovating a home is a major expense but if you’re willing to put some time and energy in, you can save thousands by sourcing your own prime cost items, otherwise know as PC items. Below is a list of the cheapest suppliers in Sydney for prime cost items, that I was able to find.
When I got my builders quotes for a home renovation job a few months ago, the cost was much higher than I was expecting so I decided to do a bit of research and see if I could save some money. I have spent the last six weeks searching the internet, calling stores and driving around to find the cheapest suppliers in Sydney for prime cost items. The final cost for the PC items I have purchased myself is almost $25,000 lower than the allowance that any of the builders had quoted me. Below is a list of the cheapest suppliers in Sydney for prime cost items, that I was able to find.
Kitchen & Laundry Cabinets – Ikea. Marsden Park, Rhodes, Tempe & online
I was quoted and average price of $24,000 for my kitchen and $8,000 for my laundry from various suppliers. I then went to Ikea and the staff showed me how to use their online 3D planner which I have become obsessed with. I have personally designed my own kitchen & laundry cabinets, exactly the way I want them. The total price including all cabinets, tap ware, sinks & stone bench tops was $12,500. This does not include appliances or installation. The range was fantastic and the options endless. Ikea also have the option of paying their staff to come out to your house and measure and design the room for you if you’re not confident enough to do it yourself.
Kitchen Appliances – Seconds World. Auburn, Cremorne, Caringbah, Penrith, Castle Hill, Mentone & online.
Seconds world sell brand new, factory second, refurbished and carton damaged appliances. I purchased brand new appliances for my kitchen and laundry, all with full warranty. The saving was large because the appliances I selected had superficial damage on them – mostly on the back or side of the appliance where it would never be seen once installed. If you buy several items, they will also negotiate on price.
Floorboards – Floor Venue. Blacktown, Belfield & online
Floor venue were the cheapest supplier I could find for laminate and timber floorboards. They do a free measure & quote and their price for installation was great. They will also negotiate price if you’re paying cash.
Tiles – Tile Factory Outlet, TFO. Smithfield
I found a feature tile for my bathroom that I loved at a local tile store but the cost was $75 per metre. I did a bit of looking online and finally came across Tile Factory Outlet – TFO. They had the same tile for $35 m2. Their range is really large and the staff are extremely helpful. I also purchased tiles for the bathroom floor and remaining walls at a very cheap $19 m2 and small tiles for my splash backs at just $12 m2.
Windows – Wideline Windows. Parramatta, Newcastle, Tuggerah & online
This company have many distributors all over Sydney but if you go to them directly, you can save a lot of money. The staff in the Parramatta store were so friendly and gave me great advice. My windows and large slider doors look amazing and the final price was $3,000 less than the average of the builders quotes.
Bathroom Items – Renovation D. Bankstown and on Ebay
Bathroom PC Items can be extremely expensive but I found a place called Renovation D in Bankstown that beat anywhere else on price. They also have an ebay store so you can purchase online. The quality of the items was great and my builder couldn’t believe it when he saw what I had purchased for such a low prices. In some cases, up to 60% cheaper than anywhere else.
Lighting, Heat Strips & Internal Doors – ebay.
There are so many lighting stores in Sydney, it’s impossible to go through them all so I went to a local store and found the light I liked which was $239. I then googled the brand and name of the light and found the exact one on ebay for $149. I also purchased my other lights on ebay as well as my outdoor heat strips and internal doors. You can save a lot of money purchasing items on ebay, you just need to check the seller’s history to make sure they have a lot of previous sales and their feedback from other buyers is good. Also check delivery times and costs.
